Decorative statue of
Persephone, goddess of Greek mythology. She was the daughter of the goddess Demeter and her brother Zeus, queen of the underworld and wife of the god Hades. Persephone was titled Kore (Daughter, Maiden) as the goddess of springs bounty and growth, who was worshipped alongside her mother Demeter in the Eleusinian Mysteries. Hades fell in love with Kore, asked for her from Zeus and finally kidnapped her, knowing that he would not choose a life in the dark. Hades took her to the underworld for her beauty, but the Goddess Dimitra asked her back. Hades agreed that Persephone would go up to the upper world for six months and go down to the next six. Therefore, during the months that Persephone is in the upper world, the Goddess Dimitra was happy and there was fair weather, while the others bad weather.
