Decorative statue of
A fountain with Aphrodite, Pan and Eros. Aphrodite is an Ancient Greek goddess associated with love, lust, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. Aphrodites major symbols include myrtles, roses, doves, sparrows, and swans. Thanks to the myth of her emergence from the sea, Aphrodite was worshiped as the protector of sailors. Sacred beings of the goddess were myrtle, pigeons, sparrows, horses and swans. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, rustic music and impromptus, and nymphs’ companion. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, in the same manner as a faun or satyr. His sacred trees were the oak and the pine. His symbols are the flute and the slingshot. Ancient art depicted him in his various occupations and love scenes with the Satyrs, Hermes and Dionysus. In Greek mythology, Eros is the Greek god of love and sex. His Roman counterpart was Cupid ("desire"). In the earliest account, he is a primordial god, while in later accounts he is described as one of the children of Aphrodite and Ares and, with some of his siblings, was one of the Erotes, a group of winged love gods. Eros is represented as the son of Aphrodite, whose mischievous interventions in the affairs of gods and mortals cause bonds of love to form, often illicitly.
